Metal-ceramic crown

A metal-ceramic crown is based on a metal prosthesis that replicates the shape of bone formation and an external ceramic coating. The contours of the frame are similar to the contours of the “native” tooth. Installation of a metal-ceramic crown is carried out on a cementing compound. Most often, they are installed on chewing teeth. Crowns of increased aesthetics are installed on teeth that are visible when smiling.

Such crowns differ in strength, hygiene and aesthetics. Outwardly, they are no different from real teeth and are resistant to the external influence of substances such as coffee or black tea. The structures are also durable: with proper care of the oral cavity and regular visits to the dentist, they will last at least 15 years.

The advantages of metal-ceramic crowns are that they allow you to restore the aesthetics of the smile and the chewing function of the teeth at an optimal price. Most often, these crowns are installed precisely on chewing teeth. First, because these teeth are larger in size and can be ground without removing the pulp. Second, a junction may be visible where the border of the crown ends. And if a non-precious material is chosen as the basis, it can easily shine through the ceramics. The choice of metal for the base will affect the cost of a metal-ceramic crown. For front teeth, veneers are more often installed or other techniques are used. Although, under certain conditions, metal-ceramic crowns can perfectly decorate a smile. This is a safe and long-lasting way to restore a tooth. It is used if one or more teeth have been severely damaged by caries or as a result of trauma. With high-quality treatment of the tooth and meticulous installation of the crown, it will not feel like something extraneous in the oral cavity at all. But for this, the professionalism of the doctor, his attentiveness and perfect operation of the equipment are very important. You will find all this in the NOWA clinic. Doctors are waiting for you here, who will make your teeth beautiful for many years. Metal-ceramic crowns do not require special care. And if a chip happens on them, then it can be fixed right on the tooth.

Types of metal-ceramic crowns

The price of metal-ceramic crowns is determined by the type of alloys used to manufacture the frame. These can be:

  • base metals, such as cobalt, nickel, chrome – a budget option;
  • precious metals – alloys of gold, platinum, palladium;
  • mixtures with titanium in the base – eliminate the risk of allergic reactions;
  • “shoulder mass” – can be alloys of both noble and non-noble metals.

The cost is also affected by the scope of work, the performance of additional diagnostic and treatment procedures as indicated.

Installing a metal-ceramic crown

Steps of the installation procedure:

  • examination of the oral cavity by a dentist and assessment of the condition of the teeth;
  • carrying out medical manipulations, installing a pin;
  • insertion of a dental implant in the absence of a nerve or severe destruction of a tooth;
  • taking impressions and making plaster models of jaws;
  • an example of a finished prosthesis;
  • correction of possible defects, if necessary, the use of temporary fixation of the crown;
  • final fixation.

The implementation of the final stage is possible when the doctor makes sure that the structure does not disturb the bite and allows the teeth to chew freely.

Installation of metal-ceramic crowns requires time and effort in order for a dental prosthesis to reliably replace a lost or damaged tooth.
