Removable devices

The older a person becomes, the more difficult, longer and more expensive it is to correct a bite. Crooked teeth, congenital malocclusion, a noticeable interdental gap – all this is far from a complete list of problems with which patients come to us. Removable appliances are structures that help correct the bite in childhood without using braces.

Unfortunately, it is not only about the aesthetic appearance of the teeth, but also about health, which suffers significantly due to all the previously listed problems.

That is why it is so important to protect your health from youth. Next, we will talk about the “what to do”: how to correct the bite in children as quickly as possible, and what to do if there was no such opportunity at a young age.

Correcting the bite in children: how to diagnose the problem

Abnormal closing of the teeth is called “incorrect bite”.

Correct bite is when the upper row of teeth slightly overlaps the lower row

It is a mistake to think that it affects only the appearance: it is not difficult to notice crooked teeth. In some cases, the problem develops further.

When the teeth are crooked, it is not only clearly visible, but also heard.

An abnormal bite can cause speech problems such as hoarseness, lisp or stutter. This happens because the formation of sounds (correct pronunciation) depends on the position of the teeth, lips and tongue. Problems in their development inevitably lead to incorrect diction.

This can prevent the child from communicating freely, as well as contribute to the development of fear of public speaking. Problems in the development of the bite are hereditary or due to neglect by parents.

This problem can be solved as painlessly as possible only up to the age of 14.

All this leads to incorrect development of the maxillofacial area:

  • sucking a finger or other objects;
  • frequent upper/lower lip biting;
  • the habit of breathing through the mouth;
  • improper removal of milk teeth;
  • jaw injuries.

In adulthood, correcting the bite without braces becomes impossible – this is the only way. The fact is that the jaw bones of an adult are already fully formed, so no other removable devices and structures will work.

Fortunately, there are many options for solving this problem at a young age:

  • trainers,
  • vestibular plates,
  • orthodontic plates (caps).

Next, we will talk about each of these options in more detail.

Removable appliance for bite correction: characteristics

So that your child does not have to wear braces for at least 2 years in the future, make an appointment with a professional dentist-orthodontist at the NOWA clinic.

All designs for bite correction can be conditionally divided into two groups:

  1. single jaw: installed only on one jaw – upper or lower.
  2. double-jaw: installed on both jaws at the same time.

Such plates are firmly fixed on the teeth, with them your child can freely eat and talk.

And another advantage of removable structures is that they can be removed independently. The child will be pleased to look beautiful in a family photo or to look good on his birthday.

On other days, we recommend wearing them all the time or at least 12 hours a day.

Remember that bite correction in children is much easier than in teenagers and even more so in adults. The earlier the problem is detected, the easier and faster it can be solved.

Types of devices for correcting the bite in children

  • Trainers: ideal for the smallest patients. In order not to tire the baby, the trainers are specially designed for use mainly at night – this will be quite enough to achieve the maximum result.
  • Vestibular plates to correct the bite in children: if it is time for your child to part with the pacifier, and the farewell does not happen at all, then the vestibular plate will be an ideal solution to the problem. It will teach your baby to breathe correctly, hold his tongue, strengthen his facial muscles and thereby prevent the appearance of speech defects.
  • Mouth guard for bite correction in children: another name is an orthodontic plate (apparatus). It is intended for older patients: from 7 to 14 years. A mouthguard can change the overall width of the jaw and work with a specific tooth. Its main plus is the complete absence of discomfort during use, so all our patients get used to it easily.
  • Braces: the most famous design for correcting the bite and correcting the position of the teeth in the jaw. Braces are installed from the age of 14 – that is, from the age when the bite has already formed and the teeth have finally taken their places.
