Air Flow cleaning

Air Flow dental cleaning is a professional cleaning of dental surfaces with the help of Swiss technology and special polishing pastes. This method is just cleaning from plaque, not bleaching, but it successfully fights with darkening of various origins, spots on the tooth enamel that appeared as a result of smoking, drinking coffee, tea, etc.

Indications for teeth cleaning

Air Flow dental cleaning is indicated in the following cases:

• before dental treatment or teeth whitening;
• when dental crowding, dental split (or inability to complete hygiene procedures for other reasons) takes place;
• the presence of braces or orthopedic devices on the teeth, as well as planning of their installation;
• treatment of paradontal diseases-paradontitis, paradontosis, gingivitis, etc.;
• bad breath;
• active formation of dental plaque caused by a person’s individual characteristics (weak salivation) or certain diseases (diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, endocrine system, etc.). 

The Air Flow cleaning procedure is carried out with an aerosol made from a mixture of water and abrasive components. Abrasives used for cleaning do not damage the gums and tooth enamel, because they consist mainly of harmless baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) or calcium carbonate. The cleaning mixture is triggered off by compressed air. It effectively brushes microbial plaque not only from the enamel of the teeth, but also from the gingival grooves — all this is an excellent prevention of caries. 

How teeth cleaning is performed at the «NOWA» clinic

Before the procedure the nurse puts on patient protective glasses and a cap to protect him/her from abrasive dust that can get on the hair and in the eyes. The patient’s lips are covered with a moisturizing dental gel (cream) to avoid drying out. Then the oral cavity is isolated using a modern soft retractor.

After taking these precautions, the procedure is performed according to the following scheme:

1. The Air Flow machine is filled with an abrasive powder based on calcium carbonate. The particles of this substance have a regular (spherical) shape, which ensures the most effective and gentle cleaning.
2. Without touching the patient’s teeth, the doctor fetches the tip of the device to them. A cleaning mixture cleans the dental surface, removes layers of soft plaque from all dental surfaces and in the interdental spaces.
3. After removing the plaque, the surfaces of each tooth are carefully polished using special rubber bands and brushes that do not injure the enamel and gums.
4. When the polishing is completed, the doctor performs remineralization of the hard tissues of the teeth to reduce their sensitivity and normalize the mineral composition.
